Carpetweed (Mollugo verticillata):  A native annual belonging to the family molluginaceae.  Prostrate growth habit.  Stems with many branches shooting off is all directions form a circular mat.  This mat is supported by a tap root.  Tongue shaped leaves (5 or 6) are arranged around each joint of the stems.  Two to five white flowers arise from the leaf axils.  Usually more a problem on newly seeded sites than in established turf.
