Significant weather events from the south usually are responsible for the movement of the black cutworm moths into our area each spring beginning as early as March. Black light traps stationed throughout the state have failed to catch many black cutworms this year to date. This is good news for our industry and may spell relief from cutworm infestations on tees and greens – at least for the near future.
The University of Kentucky has just reported first catch of Japanese beetle adults for 2005. This means that southern IN should be getting the first emergence very soon. So far, the development of the beetle seems to be right on track (normal) this year. It will be interesting to watch the population development this year – whether it is going to be high or normal.
We will keep you posted.
