Fertilization required immediately as turf greens-up after rain

Most of the state has received 0.5 inch of rain or more either this week or last and thus turf areas are starting to green-up again. It is important to take advantage of the few weeks of growing conditions and apply fertilizer immediately to help improve green-up, fill-in from drought damage, and winter survival. Apply 0.75 to 1.0 lb N/1000 ft2 with fast release N now using a N source like urea or ammoniacal forms of N. Reapply another 0.75 to 1.0 lb N/1000 ft2 with the same fertilizer in another 3 to 4 weeks near your final mowing.
