Herbicide Delays after Seeding

Almost all herbicides will affect turfgrass seedlings and application delays are usually needed following seeding. Following is information gleaned from available labels of most herbicides or herbicide types that would be used in Indiana. This is intended to provide a general idea of the limitations of each active ingredient, but please refer to the actual label of your specific product prior to use.

Preemergence Annual Grass Barricade Wait 60 days after seeding or until after the second mowing, whichever is longer
Preemergence Annual Grass Pendulum Applications made after turf has filled in and at least 4 mowings
Preemergence Annual Grass PreM Use only on well established turfgrass with a dense and uniform stand
Preemergence Annual Grass Ronstar Apply to established turf only
Preemergence Annual Grass Team Apply to established turf only
Preemergence Annual Grass Tupersan Can be applied prior to seeding cool-season grasses and anytime after germination
Pre- and Postemergence Annual Grass Dimension Applications to well-established turf with good root system and uniform stand and has received at least two mowings
Postemergence Annual Grass Drive Can be applied 7 days prior to seeding on any cool season turfgrass. Can be applied anytime after seeding on tall fescue, but must wait 28 days after emergence of creeping bentgrass, perennial ryegrass, or Kentucky bluegrass.
Postemergence Annual Grass Acclaim Extra Limited to 9 oz/A on Kentucky bluegrass that has tillered and has emerged for 1 month. Can be applied to tall fescue, fine fescue, perennial ryegrass that is at least four weeks old.
Preemergence Broadleaf Gallery Apply only after new seedlings are well established (3-leaf stage and tillering) and well rooted.
Postemergence Annual Grass MSMA Do not treat until after the third mowing.
Postemergence Broadleaf Quicksliver Newly seeded and established turf may be treated.
Postemergence Broadleaf Most products Newly seeded turf should be mowed 2-4 times prior to treatment.
Postemergence Nutsedge Sedgehammer Applications limited to well-established turf with good root system and uniform stand.
Postemergence Nutsedge Basagran
Lescogran
Do not apply until well established.
