Don’t forget to register for the Midwest Regional Turf Field Day that will be held on July 18 at the W.H. Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center in West Lafayette. This is a great opportunity for turf professionals to view the latest in turfgrass research, talk to Purdue specialists about turf and ornamental issues, and visit with exhibitors displaying the latest in turf equipment and products. The morning tours for lawn, golf, and sports turf will visit experiments at the Research Center as well as a special tour of Purdue’s Athletic Turf Facilities. Research tour topics include crabgrass control update, summer diseases, herbicides for weed control in seedlings, irrigation management, insect control, spray volume effects on fungicides, emerald ash borer, protecting your hearing, irrigation management, topdressing, wetting agents, novel species for low maintenance areas, controlling escaped ornamental grasses, efficacy of low rates of fungicides, and much, much more. The sports turf tour will visit the newly renovated bermudagrass Purdue football stadium and practice field, new in-fill artificial turf indoor field, and a paint demonstration. The afternoon program will include a weed control tour and a workshop on sprayer calibration and transport. Three CCH’s in cat 3b and GCSAA PDU’s will be offered and Pork Chop Charlie will serve his renowned pork chops at noon.
