Professionals Only: Syngenta’s Tenacity receives federal label for residential and sports turf

After much delay, Tenacity has finally received its federal label for residential and sports turf. That’s the good news, but the bad news is that state labeling is still ongoing and it won’t be for sale likely until Fall 2009 or early 2010. Experimental product is available on a limited basis from your Syngenta rep if you are interested in testing some this year. Tenacity has a number of niche uses and it is an excellent selective creeping bentgrass or nimblewill control product for bluegrass lawns. It controls yellow nutsedge preemergence and crabgrass and a number of broadleaves postemergence, but its major emphasis in lawns will be creeping bentgrass and nimblewill. A developing niche in sports fields is for fall Poa annua control. Our ongoing work shows 2-3 applications in the fall can be effective for Poa control, plus it is very safe on new seedlings. Stay tuned for more research data as well as more information on availability.
