Reports of turfgrass damage due to white grub feeding are beginning to trickle in. Damage potential seems to be widely variable this year. Some areas that were dry during the beetle egg laying season last year reported very few Japanese beetles during the entire summer. Other areas, especially in the central and southern portion of the state, experienced high beetle numbers this year. Where high adult beetles were present AND turfgrass is irrigated, we expect moderate to heavy damage potential. If early applications of preventative controls were not applied, Dylox may still provide adequate grub control. Be sure to water it in thoroughly if possible or take advantage of any fall rains that the hurricanes might spawn in our area in the next few days. Also, keep in mind that Dylox sometimes requires 7-10 days to kill the grubs after application so don’t discount its effect too soon.
