Why we don’t recommend specific fertilizer/herbicide combinations for homeowners

We’ve received a number of emails asking for specific product recommendations for XYZ town in IN or IL, or even as far away as NY. Its very difficult, OK impossible, for us to recommend specific fertilizer/herbicide combinations because there is a large number of brands and an even larger number of fertilizer/herbicide combinations available on the market. Just because we may have that specific brand or product in my favorite garden center in Lafayette, doesn’t mean it will be available anywhere else. Furthermore, the Brand X Weed and Feed available in South Bend may be slightly different than the apparently identical bag of Brand X Weed and Feed in Evansville. Therefore, the best we can do is provide the active ingredients to look for as well as general fertilizer characteristics (slow release, high N, etc). The other option is to insist that you buy lawn care products at my favorite garden center in Lafayette. It may be inconvenient for you, but I’m sure they won’t mind.
